Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Laver Cup of Houston due to “personal reasons”. Nadal was replaced by Grigor Dimitrov, who will take part in his first tour since winning his record sixth title in Barcelona, where he beat Andy Roddick and Pete Sampras in consecutive matches.
It was announced on Friday evening that Nadal withdrew from the event due to “personal reasons”. Nadal will play his first match of the year against Nicolas Almagro, who is going through his first semi-final of the year.
“I think this tournament and these matches are very special and important for all of us and this is why I decided to withdraw from the tournament,” Nadal said on his official website.
“I will continue to give my best for my team and this tournament and these matches. I will miss the tournament because I will not be able to get to all the matches, as I have commitments in the coming months. I will be back soon, but I can’t promise anything right now as I have to take care of my family. I apologize to all the fans for the inconvenience to them.
